Understanding The Lemon Detox Diet

The Lemon Detox Diet has been referred to as the Master Cleanse Diet, Lemon Cleanse, or Maple Syrup Diet. Kits are available for purchase; however, the ingredients are found at most grocery stores. They include fresh lemons, pure water, cayenne pepper, pure maple syrup, and salt or peppermint tea.

Although some individuals use the detox primarily for the purpose of weight loss; additional benefits are realized. The most important are the removal of harmful toxins from the liver, gall bladder, and colon. Secondary effects are the reduction of cravings to addictive substances, an increase in blood circulation, and the provision of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants vital to healthy living.

Before beginning the 10-day regimen, consider consulting a physician, especially if coming off of a lifestyle rich in caffeine and processed foods. There may be withdrawal symptoms. Plan to stay home, avoid driving, be prepared to fight food cravings, and stay close to the bathroom due to increased bowel and bladder activity.

It is necessary to consume a gallon of liquid daily. Store the following in the refrigerator: one gallon of pure water, the juice of 4-5 lemons, and pure maple syrup. Combine the ingredients as follows. Put 2 Tablespoons each of lemon juice and syrup in a drinking glass. Add a dash of cayenne pepper. Stir. Add 8 ounces of water. Consume 8 glasses daily for 10 days. Try to use the entire gallon of water in one day, mixed with lemon juice, as peppermint tea for nausea, and in salt water.

The first few days are hardest. Lemon juice and water are vitally important to keep hydrated while the toxins are being flushed from the system. Pure maple in the syrup form provides nutrients to proper body functioning. Cayenne pepper increases the metabolism, and peppermint tea promotes proper digestion and bowel movements.

Some doctors caution against the lemon detox diet as it may cause a state of imbalance, especially for those with blood sugar issues. Side effects may include dizziness, weakness, and nausea, as well as arthritic types of pain. There may be mood swings with lightness and elation opposite headaches, confusion, and irritability.

When coming off the fast, begin eating solid foods that are easy on the system, such as yogurt, acidophilus drinks, and soft fruits and vegetables. Gradually add solid foods, keeping the bowels loose with fibrous foods. Remember that weight loss may be temporary and require additional dietary and lifestyle changes to keep unwanted pounds at a minimum.

Using the lemon detox diet wisely will bring many benefits to the body, including cleansing of the body and mind, smoothness of the skin, increase in metabolism, and reduction in cravings. Caution must be exercised, and an added sensitivity to personal needs to keep side effects and discomfort to a minimum.
